The evolution of the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet

The CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet was created over a decade ago when CSIRO performed research to find an effective weight loss plan suitable for everyday Australians. Since then, CSIRO scientists have continued to study the impact of CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet and its digital platform. They recently shared their findings in the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet 5 Year Study, one of the world’s largest scientific studies of a weight loss program. The 5 Year Study revealed the secrets – or critical habits – behind the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet that have helped members lose three times more weight than members who start but don’t complete the 12 Week Program. Based on these findings scientists went on to create a tool, the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet Start Strong Guide, a simple to-do list that helps members hit all their weight loss milestones.

Shaped by 10 years of research, over 100 million bits of information from the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet platform and the power of super-computing. By combining all this knowledge, Hope is able to predict weight loss targets, track progress and provide timely feedback.

How does Hope predict weight loss targets?

As a member of the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, Hope will predict how much weight you could lose by following the 12 Week Program. She suggests reasonable weight loss targets determined by a super-computer that has been “trained” by looking at the anonymised weight loss results of CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet members. Analysis by CSIRO scientists has shown that 50 percent of members who complete the 12 Week Program meet or beat Hope’s predictions. 

How can Hope help Australians lose more weight?

Hope wants Australians to succeed at weight loss and she’s here to encourage and motivate you on your journey. She will also provide guidance on the three key behaviours that scientists have determined lead to greater weight loss on the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet:   

  • Following the meal plan.
  • Tracking food intake.
  • Weighing in weekly.

CSIRO research has found that members who frequently engaged in these behaviours achieved a weight loss of 8.1 percent of their starting weight over 12 weeks, compared to 3.3 percent in 12 weeks for those who has low adherence to these behaviours.
