Health Benefits of Losing Weight

Did you know that losing weight is one of the best things you can do to manage - or even avoid - a wide range of health conditions and live a long and healthy life?

You don't have to lose a massive amount of weight to experience health improvements either. Losing as little as 5% of your body weight can have significant benefits to your health.

In fact, for people who are obese, the greatest health benefits come from the first 5% of body weight you lose.

Weight loss can have a positive effect on conditions such as:

  • Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Mental health issues
  • Sleep apnoea
  • Fertility
  • Asthma

Weight loss matters

In a new research study conducted by CSIRO, more than half of respondents with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol reported an improvement in their health conditions after losing weight with the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet. Almost half of those with high blood pressure and sleep apnoea also reported an improvement.

Importantly, the more weight a member lost, the more improvement they saw in their health conditions.

For example, 81% of members who lost a significant amount of weight reported improvement in Type 2 diabetes, compared to 55% of the entire sample.

Glenda kicked the medications

When Glenda was told she needed to take medication to manage a growing list of health problems, she desperately tried to figure out an alternative. Her weight had been increasing as she grew older and with it her cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

She decided to try the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet to lose weight and sort out her health. It worked better than she hoped and she lost 3 st 8 lb*!

Even better, when she went for a health check-up with her doctor she was told her blood sugar levels and blood pressure was normal, and that her cholesterol levels had dropped significantly.

How our program can help

1. Type 2 diabetes

Managing diabetes is hard enough, so the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet is designed to help you control your blood glucose levels. The meal plans are designed with higher protein, low GI recipes and our exercise plans are easy to follow.

2. Lower cholesterol levels

Our diet is more than just a weight-loss strategy. It’s an eating plan that helps lower your blood lipid levels (also known as your LDL cholesterol) with meals that are high in protein and low in saturated fats. Our menu plans have been built around protein foods, as well as plenty of grains, fruits, vegetables and ‘good’ fats that have been shown to reduce triglycerides and bad cholesterol in the blood.

3. Reduce blood pressure

Around a third of UK adults have high blood pressure - and many without realising it. Lifestyle changes can make a huge difference, so eating well and being active are vital tools for people with high blood pressure. Not only can losing weight reduce your blood pressure, it can also help prevent the development of heart disease, stroke and other serious illnesses.

4. Eliminate joint pain

Most people experience back pain at least in their lives but if it develops into osteoarthritis it may become a serious disability. Worldwide, osteoarthritis is considered on of the most significant causes of disability. By losing weight you can reduce or even eliminate daily pain.

5. Increase energy levels

Losing weight can have a significant impact on your energy levels - in a good way. In fact, 63% of our members reported increased energy levels after completing our 12 week program. On top of this, members also reported that their general mood improved!
