Sink your teeth into this satisfying meal and enjoy the freshness of the tomato salsa, which is made in a flash.

  • Beef mince, low fat, raw, 700 g
  • Thyme, fresh, 1 tablespoon(s)
  • Onion, any type, 1 medium, grated
  • Garlic, 3 clove(s), crushed
  • Tomato paste, no added salt, 1 tablespoon(s)
  • Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon(s)
  • Eggs, raw, 2 extra large egg(s), lightly beaten
  • Olive oil, 1 tablespoon(s)
  • Wholemeal bread roll, 4 roll(s), optional
  • Crushed tomatoes, 1 400g can(s)
  • Red capsicum, 1 capsicum(s), seeded and finely diced
  • Red onion, 1 small, finely diced
  • Tabasco sauce, ½ teaspoon(s), optional
  • Basil, 2 tablespoon(s), chopped
  • Lemon juice, 1 tablespoon(s)

Method

  1. Combine the beef, thyme, onion, garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and egg in a large bowl. Form into four patties, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. To make salsa, mix together chopped tomatoes, capsicum, red onion, Tabasco, basil and lemon juice.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-based non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the burgers and cook for 5 minutes each side, flattening regularly.
  4. Serve the burgers in the bread rolls (if using) with a dollop of salsa and a green salad.
